Wisdom tooth removal cost in Sharjah: what to expect

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. When one does, the price depends mostly on how the tooth sits in the jaw, which only an X-ray can show.

The tooth everyone asks about

Wisdom teeth usually arrive between the ages of 17 and 25, and they often cause trouble because there isn’t enough room for them. Patients searching for wisdom tooth removal cost usually have a sore gum at the back of the mouth, a bad taste or a tooth that keeps catching food.

This guide explains when removal is needed, what changes wisdom tooth removal cost, what insurance usually covers and what recovery looks like. It starts the same way every assessment at our clinic starts: with an X-ray, because the position of the tooth decides almost everything.

Does every wisdom tooth need to come out?

No. A wisdom tooth that has come through fully, sits upright, can be cleaned properly and isn’t causing problems can usually stay. Removal is generally recommended when a tooth causes repeated infection of the gum around it (pericoronitis), decay that cannot be fixed, damage to the tooth in front, a cyst, or ongoing pain. Removing healthy, symptom-free wisdom teeth just in case is not usually recommended.

5 things that decide wisdom tooth removal cost

Erupted or impacted

A fully erupted wisdom tooth is often removed like any other tooth. An impacted tooth, stuck under gum or bone, needs surgery.

Angle of the tooth

Teeth tilted forwards, sideways or lying horizontally take more time to remove.

Upper or lower

Lower wisdom teeth are usually more complex than upper ones because the bone is denser.

Distance from the nerve

If roots are close to the nerve, extra care or specialist referral may be advised.

Number of teeth

Removing two on the same side at once can be more efficient than separate visits.

Simple removal vs surgery

When a wisdom tooth has come through, removal is similar to a normal extraction and often takes under 30 minutes. When it’s impacted, a small opening is made in the gum, a little bone may be removed and the tooth may be divided into pieces. This is the main reason removal cost varies: a surgical removal simply takes more time, skill and follow-up. Very complex cases, such as a deeply buried lower tooth right next to the nerve, may be referred to an oral surgeon.

What insurance usually covers

When a wisdom tooth is causing infection, pain or damage, removal is usually treated as necessary care, so many UAE plans cover it with a co-payment. Some plans need prior approval for surgical removal. We check your policy and request approval where needed before treatment. See our insurance page.

Ask before booking

Recovery

The first week after removal

Day 1

Bite on gauze, rest, use a cold pack on the cheek, eat soft cool food and avoid rinsing hard, straws and smoking.

Days 2 to 3

Swelling usually peaks. Take painkillers as advised and start gentle salt-water rinses after meals.

Days 4 to 7

Swelling and stiffness ease. Most people return to normal food gradually.

Warning signs

Pain that gets worse after day three, a bad taste or fever needs a check. It may be a dry socket or infection.

Managing pain before your appointment

If your wisdom tooth gum is sore, rinse with warm salt water several times a day, brush gently around the area and take an over-the-counter painkiller if it is suitable for you. Antibiotics may help a spreading infection but don’t fix the cause. Our guide to wisdom tooth pain explains what helps and when it is urgent.

Why the X-ray matters

You cannot judge a wisdom tooth by looking in the mirror. Part of it may be hidden under the gum, and its roots may curve towards the nerve. A panoramic X-ray shows the whole picture, so the dentist can tell you whether it’s a simple or surgical removal and give an accurate estimate of extraction cost. At our clinic the consultation and X-ray are free, and you receive the plan in writing.

Timing and age

Wisdom teeth are generally easier to remove in younger adults, when the roots are not fully formed and the bone is more flexible. Recovery also tends to be quicker. That does not mean every teenager needs them out, but if a tooth is clearly going to cause problems, earlier removal is usually simpler. Avoid planning removal right before exams, travel or important events, and in Ramadan consider booking after iftar.

After the removal

Our detailed guide to wisdom tooth removal recovery covers food, sleep, sport and work. You can also read the NHS guide to wisdom tooth removal for general background. If anything feels wrong, call us on 06 715 6001; we’re open every day until 10 PM.

Comparing prices between clinics

When you compare removal cost, make sure each quote is for the same thing. A price for a simple extraction isn’t comparable with surgical removal of an impacted tooth. Ask whether the X-ray, anaesthetic, stitches and follow-up check are included. A slightly higher price from a clinic that explains the risks clearly and plans carefully is often the better choice for a procedure close to nerves and sinuses.

Upper vs lower wisdom tooth removal cost

Upper wisdom teeth are often easier to remove because the bone around them is softer and they tend to come out with less force. Lower wisdom teeth sit in denser bone and are more often impacted, so they usually take longer. That is why a quote for the upper teeth is often lower than for the lower teeth, and why a single overall figure for extraction cost can be misleading.

When you receive an estimate, ask whether it’s per tooth and whether it assumes a simple or surgical removal.

Risks the dentist will explain

Any honest discussion of removal cost should also cover the risks. These include swelling, bruising, stiffness of the jaw, dry socket, infection and, rarely, temporary or permanent numbness of the lip, chin or tongue if the roots are very close to a nerve. Upper wisdom teeth can sit close to the sinus. Your X-ray helps assess these risks, and very complex cases are referred to an oral surgeon.

Wisdom tooth removal cost vs leaving it

Leaving a problem wisdom tooth in place can seem cheaper, but repeated infections, antibiotics, missed work and damage to the tooth in front can add up. If the tooth keeps flaring up, removal is usually better value in the long run. If it’s healthy and causing no trouble, keeping an eye on it at check-ups is often the sensible choice, and that costs nothing extra.
