Many patients feel more comfortable with a woman, especially for a first visit or when bringing children. Three of our four dentists are women, so you can usually choose.

Choosing who treats you

Some patients prefer to be seen by a female dentist for personal, cultural or religious reasons. Others simply feel more relaxed, or want the same for their children or older relatives. Whatever your reason, it is a reasonable request, and you never need to explain it.

At Al Jazeera Dental Clinic on Al Khan Street, Al Majaz 3, three of our four dentists are women: Dr Anija Sreekumar, Dr Christina S. and Dr Ruba Atta. Between them they cover general dentistry, children’s dentistry, braces and clear aligners, and cosmetic treatment. When you book, just tell us and we will match you.

Why patients ask for a female dentist

The reasons are as varied as our patients. Some women prefer this because treatment involves close contact and time in a reclined chair. Some families prefer that their daughters or mothers see a woman. Some parents feel it puts small children at ease, although every member of our team is used to treating children gently.

For others it is about communication. Patients often find it easier to talk openly about worries, past bad experiences or pain when they feel comfortable with the person treating them. Feeling understood makes it easier to ask questions and to come back for regular check-ups, which is what keeps teeth healthy in the long run.

Treatments our female dentists provide

A female dentist for children

Dr Christina’s postgraduate training is in pedodontics, the branch of dentistry focused on children. She takes first visits slowly, explains each step in words children understand and keeps parents in the room throughout. Many parents book their children with her for check-ups, fluoride and fillings.

If your child is due a first visit, our guide to your child’s first dental visit explains how to prepare. See also our children’s dentistry page.

A female dentist for braces and aligners

Dr Anija plans and manages braces and clear aligner treatment at the clinic. She looks at how the teeth and bite work together, not only how straight they look, and explains honestly whether braces or aligners suit your teeth. Teenage girls and women starting a long course of orthodontic treatment often prefer to see the same person at every adjustment.

A female dentist for cosmetic treatment

Dr Ruba provides general and cosmetic dentistry, including whitening and veneers, and consults in English or Arabic. Cosmetic treatment is personal: it’s about how you feel when you smile, so it helps to work with someone you can talk to easily. She will show you what is realistic for your teeth and never push treatment you don’t need.

Privacy and comfort at the clinic

Every patient is entitled to privacy and respect. Your medical history is kept confidential, and treatment is explained before it starts so there are no surprises. If you would like a family member to sit with you, that’s welcome. If you would prefer that a female assistant is present during your treatment, ask when you book and we’ll arrange it wherever possible.

We also take extra time with patients who feel nervous. If you have had a difficult experience at a dentist before, tell us. Going at your pace is part of good care.

Insurance and payment

Choosing your dentist does not change what you pay. We accept FMC, NGI, Inayah, Aafiya, SAICO / Damana, GlobeMed, MSH, Fazaa and Esaad, and handle approvals for you. For treatment your plan doesn’t cover, you can spread the cost with Tabby, Tamara or Toothpick. The first consultation and X-ray are free. Details are on our insurance page.

Getting to the clinic

We are on Al Khan Street in Al Majaz 3, Sharjah, on the ground floor opposite the ADNOC petrol station, with parking in front. See our areas we serve page for directions from your neighbourhood, or our contact page for the map.
