New patients: what to expect at your first visit
Starting with a new dentist is easier when you know what will happen. This page explains how to book, what to bring and how your first appointment works.
Welcome to Al Jazeera Dental Clinic
We have welcomed new patients on Al Khan Street, Al Majaz 3 since 1998. Some come for a routine check-up after moving to Sharjah, some because a tooth has started to hurt, and some because they want a second opinion on treatment suggested elsewhere. Whatever brings you in, your first visit starts the same way: a conversation, a careful check and a clear explanation.
The first consultation and X-ray are free for new patients. There is no obligation to go ahead with treatment, and you will always get the cost in writing before anything starts.

How the first appointment works
Welcome and history
A short form about your health and medicines, and a chat about what brought you in.
Examination
Your dentist checks each tooth, your gums, bite, jaw and soft tissues.
X-ray if needed
An X-ray shows decay between teeth, under fillings and around roots. It is free.
Explanation
You see the photos and X-ray on screen, with findings explained in plain language.
Plan and cost
If treatment is needed, you get options, priorities and prices in writing.
Why the medical history matters
Some medicines and health conditions affect dental treatment. Blood thinners can affect bleeding after an extraction, diabetes affects gum health and healing, and some heart conditions need extra care. Pregnancy changes which X-rays and medicines are suitable. Telling us about your health and medicines helps us treat you safely. Everything you share is kept confidential.
If you’re in pain
If you are a new patient with toothache, swelling or a broken tooth, tell us when you call. We keep same-day slots for urgent problems, and the first priority is to find the cause and relieve the pain. A full check-up and longer-term plan can follow once you are comfortable. See our emergency dentist page.
Second opinions are welcome
Many new patients come to us with a treatment plan from another clinic and want a second view before deciding. That is sensible, especially for larger treatment. Bring the plan and any X-rays. We’ll examine you, explain what we see and tell you honestly whether we agree, including when we think treatment can safely wait.
Insurance for new patients
We accept FMC, NGI, Inayah, Aafiya, SAICO / Damana, GlobeMed, MSH, Fazaa and Esaad. If you are a new patient using insurance, send a photo of your card by WhatsApp before your visit and we can check your cover in advance. Some treatment needs approval from your insurer before it can start; we request it for you. For treatment your plan doesn’t cover, you can pay in instalments with Tabby, Tamara or Toothpick. See our insurance page.
Choosing your dentist
New patients can ask for a particular dentist. Dr Ranjeet Kumar is our Medical Director, with a Diploma in Endodontics. Dr Anija Sreekumar plans braces and aligners. Dr Christina S. is our children’s dentist. Dr Ruba Atta provides general and cosmetic care. Between them they speak English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu and Malayalam. Meet them on our dentists page, or see our pages on finding a female dentist or an Arabic-speaking dentist.
Feeling nervous?
Many new patients have not seen a dentist for a while and feel anxious about it. That is common, and you won’t be judged. Tell us when you book. We can keep the first visit to a check-up and conversation only, explain each step before we do it and agree a signal for you to pause.
Children as new patients
Children are welcome as new patients from their first teeth. A parent stays in the room, and the first visit is kept short and positive. Families can book back-to-back appointments. See our children’s dentistry page and our guide to your child’s first dental visit.
Booking your first visit
Call 06 715 6001 or send a WhatsApp message to 050 948 2765 with your name, a preferred day and time, and a few words about what you need.
