Teeth cleaning cost in Sharjah: what a scale and polish includes
A professional clean is one of the cheapest ways to protect your teeth. Here is what it includes, why prices differ, and how often you really need one.

Small cost, big protection
Of all dental treatments, a professional clean gives the best return. It removes the hardened tartar that brushing can’t shift, stops early gum inflammation and lets the dentist catch small problems before they become painful. Yet the teeth cleaning cost in Sharjah varies widely, and it isn’t always clear what you are getting for the price.
This guide explains what a scale and polish should include, the difference between a routine clean and a deep clean, what affects the teeth cleaning cost, how insurance treats it, and how often most people need one.

What a scale and polish actually does
Plaque is a soft film of bacteria that forms on teeth every day. When it isn’t removed, minerals in saliva harden it into tartar, also called calculus. Tartar sticks firmly to the teeth, especially behind the lower front teeth and along the gum line, and it cannot be removed with a toothbrush. It irritates the gums, causes bleeding and bad breath, and gives bacteria a protected place to grow.
During a scale and polish, the hygienist or dentist uses an ultrasonic scaler and fine hand instruments to remove tartar above and just below the gum line. The teeth are then polished to remove surface stains from tea, coffee and smoking and to leave a smooth surface that plaque finds harder to stick to.
5 things a good clean should include
1. A check-up
The dentist should check your teeth and gums, not just clean them. Problems found early are cheaper to fix.
2. Gum measurements
Measuring the gum pockets shows whether you have healthy gums or early gum disease.
3. Full scaling
Tartar should be removed from every surface, including behind the front teeth and between the back teeth.
4. Polishing
Polishing removes surface stain and leaves teeth smooth and bright.
5. Personal advice
You should leave knowing which areas you miss when brushing and how to clean them better.
Why the teeth cleaning cost varies
Three things explain most of the difference in teeth cleaning cost you see between clinics. First, how much is included: a quick polish isn’t the same as a full scale with gum measurements and a check-up. Second, how much tartar there is: a mouth that has not been cleaned for several years takes longer. Third, whether you need a routine clean or a deep clean below the gum line.
Very cheap cleaning offers can be a good way to try a clinic, but check what they include. If the price covers only a few minutes of polishing, you may still have tartar under the gums. A thorough clean has a slightly higher teeth cleaning cost but protects you from the much higher cost of gum treatment later.
Price depends on
- How much tartar has built up
- Routine clean or deep cleaning
- Whether a check-up is included
- X-rays if they are needed
- Fluoride or desensitising treatment
Routine clean or deep cleaning?
A routine scale and polish is for healthy gums or mild gum inflammation. Deep cleaning, also called root surface debridement, is for gum disease, where tartar and bacteria have spread below the gum line into deeper pockets. It’s usually done under local anaesthetic, sometimes over two visits, and the cleaning cost is higher than for a routine clean.
If your gums bleed easily, look swollen, or have started to pull back, you may need a deep clean. The dentist will measure your gums and explain which you need before you are charged anything. See our gum treatment page for more.

Does insurance cover teeth cleaning?
Many UAE insurance plans with dental benefits include a routine scale and polish, often once or twice a year, sometimes with a co-payment. Deep cleaning for gum disease is also covered by many plans as necessary treatment. Cover depends on your own policy, not just the insurer’s name.
We accept FMC, NGI, Inayah, Aafiya, SAICO / Damana, GlobeMed, MSH, Fazaa and Esaad. Send a photo of your card on WhatsApp and we’ll confirm your cover, so you know your share of the cleaning price before you arrive.

How often should you have a professional clean?
For most people, every six months is the right interval, and it keeps the cleaning cost predictable. If you have gum disease, wear braces, have diabetes, smoke or use shisha, or build up tartar quickly, every three to four months may be better. People with very healthy gums and excellent home care sometimes manage with once a year.
Regular cleans keep the cleaning price low each time, because less tartar has built up. Leaving it for years means a longer, more involved appointment, and sometimes gum treatment instead of a simple clean.
Does teeth cleaning hurt?
A routine clean should not hurt, and a low cleaning cost doesn’t mean you have to put up with discomfort. You’ll feel vibration from the scaler and some pressure, and areas with inflamed gums or exposed roots can feel sensitive. Tell the hygienist if anything is uncomfortable; we can slow down, use warm water or apply numbing gel. For deep cleaning, the area is numbed first.
Gums may feel a little tender and bleed slightly for a day afterwards, especially if they were inflamed. This settles quickly as the gums heal, and most people notice their mouth feels much fresher straight away.

Keeping teeth clean between visits
A professional clean works best when it’s backed up at home. Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, angling the bristles towards the gum line. Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes, because a toothbrush cannot reach these areas. Limit sugary and acidic drinks, drink water through the day, and spit rather than rinse after brushing so the fluoride keeps working.
These simple habits slow down tartar build-up, lower your cleaning price over time, keep your gums healthy and mean each visit is quicker and more comfortable. The NHS guide to keeping teeth clean has more practical tips.
Teeth cleaning and whitening: what is the difference?
A scale and polish removes tartar and surface stains, so teeth often look noticeably brighter afterwards. It doesn’t change the natural colour of the tooth. Teeth whitening uses a gentle gel to lighten the tooth itself. Compared with the cost of whitening, the cleaning cost is small, and many people find a professional clean gives them the fresh look they wanted; others follow it with whitening for a brighter shade.
If you are planning whitening, a clean always comes first so the gel can work evenly. See our teeth whitening page to learn more.
Teeth cleaning for children
Children benefit from regular check-ups and gentle cleaning too, especially once they have their back teeth. A child’s clean is quick, careful and usually has a lower cleaning price than an adult deep clean, and it and usually includes a fluoride varnish to strengthen the enamel. It’s also a chance to show children and parents how to brush properly. See our children’s dentistry page.
Is a cheap teeth cleaning cost a red flag?
Not necessarily. Introductory offers can be genuine. What matters is the time spent and what is included. Ask whether the cleaning cost covers a check-up, gum measurements and full scaling, or only a quick polish. A good clinic will tell you plainly, and will explain if you need a deep clean before charging for it.
