Not everyone needs a full Hollywood smile

Many people searching for veneers in Sharjah don’t want a whole new set of teeth. They want one chipped tooth fixed, a dark tooth brightened, a small gap closed, or two uneven front teeth evened up, and they want the result to blend in with the rest of their smile.

This page is about veneers on a single tooth or a few teeth: composite or porcelain, how we match them to your natural teeth, the process, how long they last and what affects the cost. If you want all your visible teeth changed, see our Hollywood smile page.

When veneers help

6 problems veneers can fix

A chipped front tooth

A veneer rebuilds the edge so the tooth looks whole again.

One dark or stained tooth

Often a tooth that had a knock or a root canal and has darkened.

Small gaps

Closing a gap between front teeth without braces, when the bite allows.

Uneven lengths or shapes

Evening up teeth that are shorter, worn or oddly shaped.

Mildly crooked teeth

Masking slight overlap when straightening isn’t wanted.

Old, stained bonding

Replacing tired composite with a fresher, longer-lasting surface.

Composite or porcelain veneers?

Composite veneers are tooth-coloured resin shaped directly on your teeth, often in one visit. Little or no tooth is removed and they are easy to repair, but they can stain or chip sooner and need polishing over time.

Porcelain veneers are made in a dental lab and bonded at a second visit. They look very lifelike, resist staining and keep their colour for many years. A thin layer of enamel is usually removed first, so the decision is permanent.

Which suits you depends on

  • How many teeth need changing
  • How much the colour or shape needs to change
  • Whether you grind your teeth
  • Your budget
  • How long you want the result to last

Matching veneers to your natural teeth

With one or two veneers, the challenge isn’t making them white but making them invisible. The veneer has to match the colour, translucency and surface texture of the teeth beside it, in daylight as well as indoors. That takes careful shade matching, photos and sometimes a trial before the final veneer is made.

If your other teeth are darker than you would like, it often makes sense to whiten them first and then match the veneer to the new shade, because whitening doesn’t change the colour of a veneer afterwards. See teeth whitening.

The process

How veneers are done

Consultation

We check the teeth and gums, take X-rays and photos, and talk about what you want.

Mock-up

A temporary mock-up shows the new shape in your mouth before anything permanent.

Preparation

Teeth are prepared as needed. For porcelain, impressions go to the lab and temporaries protect the teeth.

Fitting

Veneers are checked for fit and colour, bonded, polished, and your bite is checked.

Veneer, bonding or crown?

Veneers aren’t always the right answer. A small chip can often be repaired with composite bonding, with no tooth removed at all. A tooth that’s heavily filled, cracked or has had root canal treatment may need a crown, which covers and protects the whole tooth.

If your teeth are noticeably crooked, straightening them first with clear aligners can mean less tooth needs preparing, or no veneers at all. We tell you honestly which option suits each tooth.

We may suggest something simpler if

  • Only a small corner is chipped
  • Staining responds to whitening
  • Crowding could be straightened instead
  • The tooth needs a crown for strength

How to choose where to get veneers in Sharjah

The best veneers are the ones you forget are there. When you compare clinics, look for a dentist who checks your gums and bite first, shows you a mock-up before preparing any tooth, and is willing to tell you when you do not need veneers.

Be cautious about offers that promise a set price for any number of veneers without an examination, or that remove a lot of tooth for a small change. Porcelain preparation can’t be undone.

Ask before you start

  • Can I see a mock-up first?
  • How much tooth will be removed?
  • Composite or porcelain, and why?
  • What happens if one chips?
  • Is the full cost in writing?

How long do veneers last, and caring for them

Porcelain veneers commonly last many years with good care. Composite veneers usually need polishing and occasional repair sooner. How long yours last depends on your bite, habits and home care.

Brush twice a day with a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily and keep up regular check-ups. Avoid biting ice, nut shells or fingernails. If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects your veneers while you sleep.

What affects the cost of veneers in Sharjah

The price of veneers depends on how many teeth are treated, whether they are composite or porcelain, and whether any other treatment, such as a clean, a filling or gum care, is needed first. That is why we don’t put one number on this page that could be wrong for you.

Your consultation is free, and you get the plan and full cost in writing before anything starts. Veneers are cosmetic, so most insurance plans don’t cover them, but you can pay in instalments with Tabby, Tamara or Toothpick. Read our Hollywood smile cost guide and composite vs porcelain veneers.

Price depends on

  • Number of teeth
  • Composite or porcelain
  • Treatment needed first
  • Whether a night guard is needed
Materials

Types of veneers: composite, porcelain, E.max and feldspathic

Composite veneers

Tooth-coloured resin shaped directly on the tooth, usually in one visit. Little or no drilling, easy to repair, and the most affordable option, but they stain and chip more easily and usually last fewer years.

Porcelain veneers

Thin ceramic shells made in a dental lab and bonded to the front of the teeth. Natural translucency, very stain-resistant and long-lasting. Usually two visits.

E.max (lithium disilicate) veneers

A strong type of glass-ceramic, often known by the brand name E.max. A good balance of strength and natural look, and popular for smile makeovers.

Feldspathic porcelain veneers

Traditional layered porcelain built up by a lab technician. Very lifelike and can be made very thin, but more delicate than lithium disilicate.

The right material depends on how much change you want, the colour and position of your teeth, your bite and your budget. At your free consultation we’ll explain which options suit your teeth and give you the cost in writing. Compare them in composite vs porcelain veneers and how long veneers last.

FAQ

Veneer questions

Can I get a veneer on just one tooth?
Yes. Single veneers are common, for example on a chipped or darkened front tooth. The key is matching it carefully to the teeth beside it.
Do veneers damage your teeth?
Composite veneers need little or no tooth removed. Porcelain veneers usually need a thin layer of enamel removed, which is permanent, so we always show you a mock-up first.
Do veneers look natural?
They should. We match shade, shape and translucency to your own teeth and check them in daylight.
Can veneers be whitened?
No. Whitening does not change the colour of a veneer, so whiten your natural teeth first if you want them lighter.
How long does it take?
Composite veneers are often done in one visit. Porcelain veneers usually take two visits, with temporaries in between.
Do you place implants?
No. We refer implant cases to a trusted specialist and keep looking after the rest of your dental care.

Choosing the best veneers in Sharjah

The best veneers aren’t always the most expensive ones. They are the ones planned for your face, your bite and your habits. Before you choose a clinic for veneers in Sharjah, check four things: that you’ll see a mock-up of the new smile before any tooth is touched, that the dentist explains how much enamel (if any) will be removed, that you get the full plan and cost in writing, and that the clinic will look after the veneers in the years that follow.

At Al Jazeera Dental Clinic every veneer case starts with a free consultation and X-ray. We check the health of your teeth and gums first, because veneers on top of decay or gum disease fail early. If whitening, bonding or straightening would give you the result with less treatment, we’ll tell you.

The veneer process, step by step

  1. Consultation: photos, X-ray and a conversation about the smile you want.
  2. Mock-up: a trial smile is placed over your teeth so you can see the shape and length before deciding.
  3. Preparation: for porcelain or E.max veneers, a thin layer of enamel is usually reshaped; composite veneers often need little or none.
  4. Temporaries: you wear temporary veneers while the lab makes the final ones.
  5. Fitting: the veneers are bonded, the bite is checked and you get care instructions.

Caring for veneers

Brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss daily, and keep regular check-ups and cleanings. Avoid biting hard objects such as ice or nails, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. FAQ

More questions about veneers

Which veneers are best: composite, porcelain or E.max?
Composite veneers are quicker and need little or no tooth reduction, but stain and chip more easily. Porcelain and E.max veneers look more natural and last longer, but usually need a thin layer of enamel removed. The right choice depends on your teeth, bite and budget.
Do veneers damage your teeth?
Porcelain veneers usually need a thin layer of enamel reshaped, which cannot be undone. Composite veneers often need little or none. We always show you a mock-up and explain the preparation before you decide.
How many veneers do I need?
Many people choose the teeth that show when they smile, often 6 to 10 on the top. Some only need one or two to fix a chipped or discoloured tooth.
Can I whiten veneers?
No. Veneers keep their colour, so if you want whiter teeth overall, whitening is done before the veneers are made.
